This is a poem in the shape of a 

flower. This image is a digital  

texture edit of a photo that I shot

of a black calla lily in my

daughter's garden. It caught my

eye, or I should say 'it spoke 

to me' because I had never seen
one before. So, therefore
I had to tell it to the world.

Impressions For Claude Monet

This is a piece that was inspired by The French Impressionist Claude Monet.
It is a capture of some flowers that seemed as if they were in a pond of
many reflections as if they were there for the sole purpose to honor
the talent of this wonderful artist. I did a little painting and editing
to show the viewer what was in my mind's eye.

"Blue Ladies In Waiting"

Okay, so I had just got a cup of coffee at Starbucks in Grand Rapids and I went outside to check out the photo ops. Of course there is always something to photograph. At least I don't have any problems finding things to shoot. I saw these beautiful pansies in window boxes in front of Starbucks. There were different colors but I thought these were the prettiest. I took a bunch of pics as usual and got a lot of good ones. This was one of my faves. I did a cool texture edit on this one. They reminded me of beautiful ladies waiting for someone to admire them and take them out for the evening....

"Her Majesty"

Sometimes a photo of a flower just evolves into a work of art.

This particular photo was a good capture of a sunflower from

a low angle, but it needed something. The sky was

washed out with almost no color so I added a nice

blue sky with some clouds and found just the right

texture to give it an artistic richer look.

Delicate Delight

"DELICATE DELIGHT"

I must love these daisies that my daughter planted around the gaslight in the front yard about 10 years ago, because I take so many pictures of them. I pick them occasionally and have so much fun photographing them. I'm always coming up with some new ideas. This shot was actually taken a little over a year ago when I was experimenting with soft northern window light in my kitchen. I  love the soft and delicate look of these and being in a jar gives it a down home country appearance. I was able to retain the nice backlight and also fill in some reflected light to show more detail on the flowers.

I had some daisies I wanted to photograph outside in a natural setting. I also had this neat beer bottle that worked perfect as a 'vase'. So out I went and this is what I came up with. I shot several as usual, but this one was exactly what I was envisioning.
A tree stump 'table' some grape vines, some cut logs and more grape vines in the brakground, great lighting - Perfect!

with some perfect lighting! The original picture was beautiful enough, but

I wanted to create some texture in the background to add a textile look.

Natural Graffiti

What the heck is natural graffiti? It is a term I coined for natural objects used and applied as graffiti. I am working on a series of these right now. These are done in a style known as trompe l'oeil (tromp' low-ee), or "tricking the eye" because they appear to be applied on a given surface. I will eventually spray paint one on a similar brick wall, because I want some natural graffiti around. It would add a nice touch to a patio or garden.

Hopeful...Spring weather is coming.....

Well I've been trying to update my blog with a new post for several weeks. Just couldn't seem to get it together. Well here I am with a new post on this official first day of Spring. We had a few nice days, what a welcome thing! Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day felt more like a real spring day than today. Even though it is colder today, I noticed some buds on my lilac bush and on a tree in my yard and lots of new shoots coming up. I didn't feel like taking a picture, (I know that is so unlike me) but looking through my archives I found this awesome picture I took of my grandson looking at flowers, in front of the Rock Hall, at the end of summer in 2007. It is a happy, pretty picture and to me is HOPE of beautiful new life that is already starting to grow! Hope you enjoy as much as me!

Floral Abstracts

This floral abstract is an exploration in digital painting. I started with a shot that I took of the inside of a tulip, one of my favorite spring flowers. I then painted and played in photoshop until I got what I visualized in my mind's eye. I am extremely happy with the result. I find it very intense and energizing. I am planning to put this on a large canvas.

Amidst the tension of rush hour...

Maybe it is because we go all winter without seeing any flowers that we are so drawn to the first flowers of spring. First the crocus, then daffodils, and then the tulips, so many pretty petals dancing in the wind. And just peak inside and you will find the neatest design. A few weeks ago, I stopped at a gas station in the middle of the noisy city in the middle of a chaotic rush hour and lo and behold, I found a reprieve from it all. While I was filling up my car, I was watching the tulips dancing in the wind, beckoning to me. Of course I had to walk over and take a closer look and take some pictures. It took me away for 15 minutes from all the noise and gave me back some balance & peace. So now I want to share.

Is spring really here?

This is a neat time of the year. It is a new season, full of hope. I guess the changing of the seasons is a good thing, a necessary thing, because it reminds us that everything cycles and comes full circle. Things have to die for new life to begin. We survived another winter so that we may enjoy another spring. If we need to undergo a transformation, wether it be to rid ourself of a negative habit, exercise more, go back to school or take up a new hobby, whatever we need to do to keep evolving, we know that we must shed our old self, to find our new self.
